"whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked." - 1 John 2:6
We live in a time where saying you believe something is true does not necessarily mean you do anything with it. Knowing has become synonymous with believing it. Belief has morphed into simple agreement with the facts of the matter.
When it comes to Jesus, many are satisfied with knowing facts about the gospel without it changing how they think, speak, or act. Many will say they believe and yet, their life offers little evidence of the faith they profess. They may know some facts but is this really all there is to belief?
In 1 John, the apostle John emphasizes that to faithfully follow Jesus is to abide in him. That is, those who believe in him persist in faith which results in obedience to all that he taught. Our abiding in him is made evident as the Spirit produces in us understanding (2:27), confidence (2:28), holiness (3:6, 9), love (3:17), obedience (3:24), and assurance (4:13).
Abiding in Christ is our continually becoming who we are in Jesus, by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God.
We hope you will join us for One Life Weekend 2020 as we consider the call to ABIDE.
