"From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand'." - Matthew 4:17
Jesus' ministry began with an incredible pronouncement: the Kingdom of Heaven had come. And he was very clear that to enter the Kingdom, you must repent. Citizenship in the Kingdom could not be had without turning from sin and to the Lord. But what does this look like? What kind of attitude and actions accompany repentance? What kind of character do citizens of the Kingdom display?
Jesus unpacks this in the Sermon on the Mount. Beginning with the Beatitudes, Jesus describes the attitudes of those who belong to the Kingdom. Rather than being self-reliant and self-righteous, Jesus' disciples recognize their woeful spiritual condition and their dependency upon God for salvation. In the Beatitudes, Jesus is clear: repentance is required for someone to enter the Kingdom.
At One Life Weekend 2021, we will be looking at the Beatitudes and considering the attitudes and affections of Kingdom citizens. We hope you will make plans to join us!
